The Ideal Journey to 99
Levels 1-50: Regular Logs โ Wintertodt
Burn logs to 50 Firemaking (takes ~2 hours). Then start Wintertodt for profitable training all the way to 99!
Levels 50-99: Wintertodt (Recommended for Most Players)
50-90K XP/hr + 2-5M GP profit from supply crates. More engaging than regular logs. Takes 70-100 hours to 99.
Alternative: Conventional Logs (Fastest but Expensive)
Burn logs manually for up to 500K XP/hr with redwoods. Reaches 99 in ~40 hours but costs 10-15M GP.
Why Most Players Choose Wintertodt
Wintertodt gives decent XP rates (50-90K/hr) PLUS you make 2-5M GP profit from 50-99. The supply crates contain valuable items like seeds, herbs, ores, and coins. It's also more engaging than just burning logs!
โ๏ธ Wintertodt Minigame (50-99)
What is Wintertodt?
Wintertodt is a firemaking boss that requires you to chop bruma roots, burn them in braziers, and keep the braziers lit. It's a group activity where everyone contributes to defeating Wintertodt. Each kill takes 5-15 minutes.
Location: Wintertodt Camp (Kourend, north of Great Kourend)
Requirements: 50 Firemaking minimum
XP Rate: 50-90K XP/hr depending on level, gear, and team size
Profit: 2-5M GP from 50-99 (supply crates contain valuable rewards)
Recommended Stats: 50+ Hitpoints (lower = less damage taken), 60+ Woodcutting for faster chopping
How Wintertodt Works
Step 1: Chop bruma roots from bruma tree
Step 2: Burn bruma roots in the brazier (keep it lit!)
Step 3: Repair brazier when it breaks (use hammer)
Step 4: Repair pyromancer NPCs when they fall (use rejuvenation potion)
Step 5: When Wintertodt is defeated, loot supply crate for rewards
Step 6: Repeat!
๐ก Wintertodt deals damage based on your HP level. Lower HP = less damage = less food needed!
Recommended Gear & Inventory
Gear:
โข Warm Clothing: Pyromancer outfit (reduces cold damage), or winter-themed gear
โข Axe: Best axe you can use (faster bruma root chopping)
โข Hammer: For repairing braziers
โข Optional: Weight-reducing gear for run energy
Inventory:
โข Food: Cheap food like cakes, wines, or salmon (5-15 food depending on HP)
โข Knife: To fletch bruma kindling (optional, 25% more XP but slower)
โข Tinderbox: Automatically in inventory at Wintertodt
โข Hammer: For repairs
Pyromancer Outfit
The Pyromancer outfit is earned from Wintertodt supply crates and gives 2.5% bonus Firemaking XP when wearing the full set. Each piece also reduces cold damage by 8% (40% total with full set).
How to get it: Keep opening supply crates from Wintertodt kills. You'll get all pieces within 50-100 kills usually.
๐ก Always wear the Pyromancer pieces you've unlocked - less damage + more XP!
What's in Supply Crates?
Each Wintertodt kill gives a supply crate containing random rewards:
โข Seeds (ranarr, snapdragon, magic seeds worth 50K+)
โข Herbs (grimy herbs worth 1-5K each)
โข Ores & Bars (gold ore, coal, mithril/adamant bars)
โข Coins (up to 10K per crate)
โข Logs (magic logs, yew logs)
โข Gems (uncut gems)
Average profit: 30-50K GP per hour from crates = 2-5M total from 50-99!
Low HP Strategy (10 HP Wintertodt)
Some players keep 10 HP on purpose for Wintertodt since damage scales with HP level. At 10 HP, Wintertodt deals 1-2 damage instead of 6-12 at 99 HP. This means you use almost no food!
How: Train Firemaking first before combat skills. Keep HP at base 10 by never training combat. This is popular for Wintertodt-focused accounts but not necessary - regular accounts do fine at any HP!
Solo vs Group Wintertodt
Group (Official Worlds): Faster kills (5-8 minutes), easier, more chill. Join world 309 for group Wintertodt.
Solo: Slower kills (15+ minutes) but more points per kill = better loot. Requires more attention and skill. Better for experienced players wanting maximum profit.
๐ Conventional Training (Fastest XP)
Overview
Burning logs in lines is the fastest Firemaking training method. Use the best logs you can afford for maximum XP rates. This method is click-intensive but extremely fast - reaching 99 in just ~40 hours!
Location: Grand Exchange (popular spot), or any bank
Requirements: Tinderbox, logs
XP Rate: 45K-500K XP/hr depending on log type
Cost: 10-15M GP for 1-99 with expensive logs
Log Types & XP Rates
| Level | Log Type | XP per Log | XP/hr |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Regular Logs | 40 XP | 45K |
| 15 | Oak Logs | 60 XP | 65K |
| 30 | Willow Logs | 90 XP | 100K |
| 45 | Maple Logs | 135 XP | 157K |
| 60 | Yew Logs | 202.5 XP | 270K |
| 75 | Magic Logs | 303.8 XP | 400K |
| 90 | Redwood Logs | 380 XP | 500K |
How to Burn Logs Efficiently
Step 1: Bank near Grand Exchange or any bank
Step 2: Withdraw 27 logs + keep tinderbox in inventory
Step 3: Walk in a straight line, burning logs as you go
Step 4: When inventory is empty, bank and repeat
๐ก Use Runelite's "Shift-Drop" plugin + "Burn Left-Click" menu entry swapper for faster training!
Expensive but Fast
Burning logs costs 10-15M GP for 1-99 if using expensive logs (magic/redwood). Wintertodt gives similar time investment but MAKES you money instead of costing money. Only use conventional training if you want the absolute fastest 99 and don't mind the cost!
๐ชต AFK Bonfires
Overview
Bonfires let you burn logs on an existing fire for slightly more XP and longer AFK times. You can AFK for up to 70 seconds per inventory of logs! Not the fastest or most profitable method, but great for multitasking.
Location: Grand Exchange (many permanent fires), or make your own
XP Bonus: +10% XP compared to regular burning
AFK Time: ~70 seconds per inventory (27 logs)
Best for: Multitasking or casual training
How to Use Bonfires
Step 1: Find an existing fire (Grand Exchange always has fires) or light your own
Step 2: Use logs on the fire to add them to bonfire
Step 3: Your character automatically burns all 27 logs (~70 seconds)
Step 4: Bank and repeat
๐ Perfect for watching TV, studying, or working from home - just click once per minute!
Bonfires vs Regular Burning
Bonfires give 10% more XP but are slightly slower overall than regular burning since you need to wait for all logs to burn. The main advantage is AFK time - great for multitasking but not the most efficient for pure XP grinding.
๐ F2P Firemaking Guide
F2P Training Method
F2P can only train by burning conventional logs. No Wintertodt access in F2P!

| 45-60 | Maple | 135 | 17,000 | ~7 hours |
| 60-99 | Yew | 202.5 | 64,000 | ~26 hours |
F2P vs P2P Comparison
- โ No Wintertodt - Missing profitable training method
- โ No Magic/Redwood Logs - Limited to Yew logs max
- โ Lower XP rates - 100-150k vs 450k+ XP/hr in P2P
- โ More expensive - Must buy logs from GE (no profit option)
- โ Fast skill - Still one of fastest F2P skills (~37 hours to 99)
๐ก F2P Firemaking is decent but loses ~10M GP. P2P Wintertodt profits instead!

โ Frequently Asked Questions
What's the fastest way to 99 Firemaking?
Burning magic logs or redwood logs from 75-99 (450-500k XP/hr). Takes ~26 hours total for 99 if you start at level 50. Expensive but extremely fast!
Should I do Wintertodt or conventional logs?
Wintertodt if you want profit (~5-10M GP to 99) and decent XP rates (50-90k XP/hr). Conventional logs if you want maximum speed and don't mind the cost. Most players do Wintertodt for the profit.
What level should I be for Wintertodt?
50 Firemaking minimum to access Wintertodt. Many players start at low HP (10 HP) to take less damage - this means minimal combat training before Wintertodt. Higher HP requires more food per game.
Is Wintertodt worth it at high HP?
Yes! Even at 99 HP you can do Wintertodt - you'll just need more food (8-12 food per game instead of 2-4). The profit is still excellent, making it worthwhile even on maxed accounts.
What's the best location to burn logs?
Grand Exchange bank is most popular - close bank and plenty of space. Varrock west bank or Draynor Village also work well. Location doesn't significantly affect XP rates.
How much does 99 Firemaking cost?
Wintertodt profits 5-10M GP! Conventional logs: Willow (~2M loss), Maple (~8M loss), Yew (~20M loss), Magic (~30M loss). Most players do Wintertodt to 99 for the profit.
Should I fletch kindling at Wintertodt?
Only if you want 25% more Firemaking XP and don't mind extra clicking. Most players just burn bruma roots directly for more relaxed gameplay. Kindling is optional for slightly faster XP.
