CoX Drop Rates Changed: New Chambers of Xeric Loot Weightings (2026)

4 min read954 wordsupdates

Chambers of Xeric loot was reworked in August 2026. Prayer scrolls are ~20-26% less common, Ancestral pieces are up 53-64%, and every unique's per-purple odds changed. Here's the full new table and what it means for farming CoX.

The Chambers of Xeric loot table was reworked on 12 August 2026 as part of Summer Sweep-Up batch 2 — and it's the biggest change to the raid's rewards in its history. Prayer scrolls are dramatically less common, Ancestral pieces are significantly more likely, and Challenge Mode is now a genuinely better path to purples than it used to be.

If you've been farming CoX, or you're about to start, this is the drop table you're playing against now.

The New Loot Weightings

Unique drops in CoX are rolled from a weighted table when you see a purple. Jagex shifted the weights so that scrolls — the most complained-about outcome — are much rarer, and rare uniques come more often.

Unique Old Weight (69) Regular New (60) Change CM New (56) Change
Ancestral Hat 3 4 +53.3% 4 +64.3%
Ancestral Robe Bottoms 3 4 +53.3% 4 +64.3%
Ancestral Robe Top 3 4 +53.3% 4 +64.3%
Arcane Prayer Scroll 20 14 -19.5% 12 -26.1%
Dextrous Prayer Scroll 20 14 -19.5% 12 -26.1%
Dinh's Bulwark 3 3 +15% 3 +23.2%
Dragon Claws 3 3 +15% 3 +23.2%
Dragon Hunter Crossbow 4 4 +15% 4 +23.2%
Elder Maul 2 2 +15% 2 +23.2%
Kodai Insignia 2 2 +15% 2 +23.2%
Twisted Bow 2 2 +15% 2 +23.2%
Twisted Buckler 4 4 +15% 4 +23.2%

(The percentage changes are relative to each table's new total — every unique that kept the same weight still got proportionally more common.)

What It Means Per Purple

The weightings are conditional on a purple roll, so here's what each outcome's odds became:

Outcome Old Odds Per Purple Regular Now CM Now
Any Prayer Scroll 29.0% 23.3% 21.4%
Any Ancestral Piece 13.0% 20.0% 21.4%
Twisted Bow 2.9% 3.3% 3.6%
Kodai / Elder Maul 2.9% each 3.3% each 3.6% each
DHCB / Buckler 5.8% each 6.7% each 7.1% each

The headline numbers:

  • Scrolls are ~20% rarer in regular CoX and ~26% rarer in Challenge Mode — the "purple = scroll" meme is finally dead
  • Ancestral pieces are ~54% more common in regular, ~64% more common in CM — ticking off the full set takes dramatically fewer raids than before
  • Twisted Bow odds went up ~15% relative (same weight, smaller table) — the big fish got slightly easier, not harder

Jagex's stated goal: bring regular CoX's hours-per-valuable in line with other raids, and make Challenge Mode worth doing. The Arcane/Dextrous weightings now sit close to the Avernic hilt's relative rarity at Theatre of Blood.

What Changes in Practice

The GP/hr picture. Jagex expects the raid's GP/hr to hold roughly steady: scroll prices should rise (they're rarer), Ancestral prices should fall (they're more common), and the two effects offset. Markets around major loot changes can swing wildly for a few weeks, and Jagex has said they'll watch closely and may revisit the numbers — so don't panic-sell or panic-buy until prices settle.

Challenge Mode is now the better farm. If you can clear CM comfortably, the improved unique odds (21.4% Ancestral per purple) plus CM's own purple-rate bonus make it the strongest path to endgame uniques. The old "CM isn't worth it" argument died with this table.

Completing your collection is easier. Ancestral was the single biggest source of "I have 2,000 CoX kc and no set" frustration. The set's effective rate dropped by roughly a third. If you're chasing the full log, now is the best time in the raid's history to grind it out.

What Didn't Change

Worth stating clearly, because the old CoX lore dies hard:

  • The purple rate itself is unchanged. The overall chance of seeing a unique is still driven by your raid points and the raid's total points, not the weighting table. This rework only changes which unique a purple becomes.
  • Twisted Bow keeps the same weight (2) — it got relatively more common because the table shrank, not because Jagex buffed it.
  • The points economy, solo/team scaling, and the Olm fight are untouched — this was a rewards-only change. All the mechanics advice in our Chambers of Xeric guide still applies as written.

A Note for Ironmen and Early Game

For ironmen, the Ancestral buff is the sleeper win: the set was one of the single worst grinds in the game because scrolls consumed so many purples. Roughly one in five purples is now an Ancestral piece in regular mode, so the "dead purple" feeling is gone — every purple has a genuine chance at something that advances your account. Combined with the Fractured Archive raid offering its own megarare path, endgame gear progression for restricted accounts just got a lot less soul-crushing.

Should You Go Back to CoX?

If you were farming ToA or ToB instead, this rework makes CoX meaningfully more attractive: more frequent valuable purples, a genuinely rewarding CM option, and the Twisted Bow still being the Twisted Bow. The Fractured Archive raid and its Obligator crush megarare (full breakdown here) have also expanded the raid roster, so there's real competition for your PvM time — but CoX just became the best-value grind of the three classic raids per hour spent.
