Frequently Asked Questions
01How is DPS calculated in OSRS?
DPS = Average Hit × Accuracy ÷ Attack Speed (seconds). Average Hit = (Max Hit + 1) ÷ 2. Accuracy uses your attack roll vs the target's defence roll. Max hit uses your effective strength level and equipment bonus. Attack speed is based on your weapon (each tick = 0.6s).
02What is the accuracy formula?
Attack Roll = Effective Level × (Equipment Bonus + 64). Defence Roll = (Target Level + 9) × (Target Defence + 64). If Attack Roll > Defence Roll: Accuracy = 1 − (Defence Roll + 2) ÷ (2 × (Attack Roll + 1)). If Attack Roll ≤ Defence Roll: Accuracy = Attack Roll ÷ (2 × (Defence Roll + 1)).
03How much does weapon speed affect DPS?
Weapon speed is measured in ticks (1 tick = 0.6s). A speed 4 weapon attacks every 2.4s, while a speed 6 weapon attacks every 3.6s. Faster weapons benefit more from flat damage bonuses and are usually better for training. Slower weapons have higher max hits per swing.
04How do September 2026 Elemental amulets and Slayer changes affect magic DPS?
Elemental amulets (2 Sept 2026, left as-is 8 Sept) give +10 Magic Accuracy and +2 flat max hit to their element (+2 applied after Weakness/Magic Damage % following the 3 Sept clarification). Model them as +10 accuracy with a +2 flat add — strongest at low max hits, niche at endgame vs Occult. Also from Summer Sweep-Up: Abyssal Guardian/Walker Light/Heavy Ranged defence cut to 0 (Crush to 0 for Guardians) and Rune Essence pouch rates buffed, so magic DPS vs Abyssals is notably higher. See our Elemental Amulets guide.
