The Obligator is the confirmed name and design for the Fractured Archive raid's crush megarare — the weapon previously known as the TzHaar-Ket Breaker. In the rewards lock-in poll, the weapon passed with 88.4% approval, and the Obligator won the visual identity vote over the Titanic Breaker (the other two designs may return as cosmetic appearances later).
It occupies the Crush niche that the Scythe of Vitur fills for Slash: a heavy two-handed weapon built to demolish Crush-weak bosses.
The Obligator Stats
The Obligator is a two-handed weapon with exceptional Crush accuracy and a heavy Strength bonus:
| Stat | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Stab attack | +22 |
| Slash attack | -8 |
| Crush attack | +120 |
| Strength | +40 |
| Prayer | +3 |
| Slash defence | +16 |
| Magic defence | +3 |
| Ranged defence | +8 |
The +120 Crush attack is the standout number — no other weapon reaches triple-digit accuracy on a single style, and it comes with the multi-hit mechanics below.
Attack Styles
The Obligator offers two attack styles with different trade-offs:
Thrust (5-tick, multi-hit)
The signature stance. Each attack makes one accuracy roll normally, then two additional rolls when the target's Stab or Slash defence is higher than Crush — so against a Crush-weak target it makes five accuracy rolls per attack, effectively rolling multiple times and taking the best result.
It also smashes through targets in a line and gains bonus damage against larger NPCs: +20% of your hit at the base tier, +40% against the biggest targets (reduced from the original 25%/50% proposal after the rework).
Smash (3-tick, single hit)
Trades the multi-hit and line-smash away for a 3-tick attack speed — one of the fastest heavy weapon speeds in the game. Pick this stance when you want consistent fast hits over multi-target damage, or when the target's defence profile doesn't trigger the extra accuracy rolls.
How It Compares to the Scythe
- Vs Crush-weak enemies: the Obligator beats the Scythe by a large margin — that's its intended niche.
- Vs neutral defences: the Scythe keeps a small edge, so it remains the pick for general Slash content.
- Nex: Jagex confirmed they will lower Nex's Crush defence so the Obligator becomes best-in-slot there.
Charging & Acquisition
Like the Scythe, the Obligator needs charging — with a rune of some kind (final type not yet confirmed) plus Ascension Shards earned from the raid or its lobby. It drops from The Fractured Archive, Old School's fourth raid, alongside the Rondache, Zorya's Tome, Ascension Crossbows, and the new Zeal prayer upgrade.
Bottom Line
If you grind The Fractured Archive when it lands, the Obligator is the raid's marquee melee drop: the first true Crush megarare, with a multi-roll accuracy mechanic that makes it the definitive answer to Crush-weak bosses and a 3-tick smash for fast single-target work.
