Zulrah OSRS Boss Guide
Solo Bosses - Medium difficulty
Updated September 2026
Zulrah is a level 725 solo-only snake boss fought from a small shrine east of Zul-Andra. Its four fixed rotations and form changes make it a popular first real boss, and its unique table supplies the Toxic blowpipe, Serpentine helm, Magic fang and Tanzanite fang. The average kill is worth around 127,000 GP with an effective chance of roughly 1/162.5 at a unique. This guide gives you a practical starting route, loadout direction, and decision-first checklist so you can get into consistent kills faster.

Boss Overview
Zulrah is a solo boss in thesolo bosses bracket. This encounter rewards practical loadout choices and repeatable mechanics more than flashy max-hit attempts.
Zulrah cycles between green, blue and red forms. Green casts Ranged and is weak to Magic; blue casts Ranged and Magic and is weak to Ranged; red swings a typeless tail that must be side-stepped. It inflicts venom, spawns Snakelings and drops toxic clouds while you stand on one of the island's safe spots, and all damage against it is capped at 50 per hit.
For a first kill, learn a single rotation rather than reacting freely: a rotation chart or the Runelite plugin tells you exactly which safe spot to stand on and when to swap. Bring anti-venom or a Serpentine helm, keep Protect from Magic up during the blue form, and remember that Zulrah's damage per hit is capped at 50.
Your current setup should match your trip objective. If you are learning mechanics, favor sustain and control. If you are already consistent, add damage gradually.
Build consistency first, then optimize kill speed in controlled steps.
How The Fight Works
Entry Setup
Open each run with a consistent setup routine to reduce avoidable errors.
Core Mechanic Loop
Use the same clean mechanic cycle each kill for Zulrah before adding optimizations.
Trip Sustain
Preserve supplies with low-risk choices so your average trip value stays stable.
Bank and Repeat
Reset quickly, review one improvement point, and keep run volume high.
Kill Method
1. Learn one rotation at a time
Zulrah has 4 fixed rotations alternating between green (mage) and blue (ranged) forms, starting in either the green or red position. Use a rotation chart or the Runelite plugin and learn one rotation before moving to the next.
2. Move between safe spots
Each rotation has specific safe positions (top right, bottom, and middle of the arena). Pre-position for phase transitions to avoid panic movement.
3. Pray against the current form
Pray Protect from Missiles against the green (mage-attacking) form and Protect from Magic against the blue (ranged-attacking) form. Handle the snakelings between phases and avoid the toxic clouds.
4. Loot the fangs
Tanzanite fang (Serpentine helm upgrade), Magic fang (Trident of the swamp), Serpentine visage, blowpipe (uncharged), scales, and the pet Snakeling. No Slayer task required.
Prep Checklist
- Lock one stable loadout before you chase max DPS variants.
- Pre-plan your inventory around your expected trip length.
- Set one clear objective for each trip (KC, task, uniques, or practice).
Recommended Loadout
Switches: mage helm/top/bottom/weapon/shield/neck/gloves/boots. Tbow camp works all phases. Ring of recoil for snakelings.

Mechanic Checklist
Focus on clean rotations, predictable movement, and stable supplies.
- Bring anti-venom+, an anti-venom or a Serpentine helm - regular poison protection only downgrades venom and never immunises you.
- Memorise one rotation and use the safe-spot chart: reacting to Zulrah's forms on the fly is how most first attempts die.
- Move two tiles off the red form's tail - it is typeless, hits hard and stuns you, so no protection prayer will stop it.
Common Mistakes
- Over-prioritizing damage upgrades before mastering mechanics.
- Bringing too many switches and losing consistency under pressure.
- Staying too long on weak supplies and losing overall hourly value.
Progression Targets
- Stage 1: Build a reliable Zulrah starter setup in Gear Picker and secure consistent clears.
- Stage 2: Optimize trip length through cleaner mechanics and inventory control.
- Stage 3: Add a stronger DPS variant and compare real run outcomes.
- Stage 4: Finalize a shareable Zulrah loadout set for your ongoing route.
Notable Drops
- Tanzanite fang
- Magic fang
- Serpentine visage
Boss FAQ
01What are the Zulrah rotations and how do I learn them?
Zulrah has 4 fixed rotations that alternate between green (mage) and blue (ranged) forms, starting in either the green or red position. Learn one rotation at a time with the Zulrah rotation chart or Runelite plugin, moving between the safe spots (top left pillar, bottom left corner, and the middle) as each form phases.
02What does Zulrah drop?
Zulrah's uniques include the Toxic Blowpipe (uncharged), Serpentine Helm (uncharged), Magic Fang (combine with an uncharged trident to make the Trident of the Swamp), and Tanzanite Fang (upgrades the Serpentine Helm into its offensive Tanzanite variant). It also drops Zulrah's Scales, Onyx, Mutagens, and the Snakeling pet.
03Do I need a Slayer task to kill Zulrah?
No. Zulrah requires only partial completion of Regicide and can be killed as often as you like — it is a standard solo boss rather than a Slayer-exclusive one.
04What setup style should I start with for Zulrah?
Start with a Mage + Ranged setup focused on consistency, then tune damage once your kill flow is stable. Build and test your own setup in the Gear Picker before long trips.
05Is Zulrah good for profit?
Zulrah can be strong for profit depending on your kill consistency, trip length, and unique drop luck. Prioritize repeatable clears over risky max-DPS setups.
06How should I use Gear Picker for Zulrah?
Create one baseline loadout, one safer sustain loadout, and one upgraded version. Share each link so you can compare and discuss setups quickly.
07Should I use Best in Slot Finder or Gear Picker for Zulrah?
Use Best in Slot Finder for recommendation-first starting points, then use Gear Picker to build and refine the exact setup you will actually run.
