The Gauntlet OSRS Boss Guide
Solo Bosses - Hard difficulty
Updated September 2026
The Gauntlet is a solo minigame in Prifddinas where you must gather every resource yourself before fighting the Crystalline Hunllef. It offers low-gear-entry access to the Enhanced crystal weapon seed for the Bow of Faerdhinen or Blade of Saeldor, crystal armour seeds and the Youngllef pet. The Corrupted version has better unique odds but a much tighter timer. This guide gives you a practical starting route, loadout direction, and decision-first checklist so you can get into consistent kills faster.

Boss Overview
The Gauntlet is a solo challenge in thesolo bosses bracket. This encounter rewards practical loadout choices and repeatable mechanics more than flashy max-hit attempts.
You have ten minutes to scout a 7x7 room grid, collect crystal ore, phren bark and linum tirinum for armour, catch paddlefish, and kill monsters for a weapon frame plus a crystal spike, orb or bowstring. The Hunllef switches protection prayers during the fight, so you must carry at least two weapon types and swap to the one matching its current overhead.
For your first clear, build Tier 2 armour and Tier 3 weapons for a safer margin, then focus on its stomp and tornado phases: step off the glowing tiles when it slams and keep moving while the tornados track you. In the Corrupted Gauntlet the prep timer drops to 7:30 and the Corrupted Hunllef has 1,000 hitpoints and more aggressive stats.
Your current setup should match your trip objective. If you are learning mechanics, favor sustain and control. If you are already consistent, add damage gradually.
Build consistency first, then optimize kill speed in controlled steps.
How The Fight Works
Entry Setup
Open each run with a consistent setup routine to reduce avoidable errors.
Core Mechanic Loop
Use the same clean mechanic cycle each kill for The Gauntlet before adding optimizations.
Trip Sustain
Preserve supplies with low-risk choices so your average trip value stays stable.
Bank and Repeat
Reset quickly, review one improvement point, and keep run volume high.
Kill Method
1. Route your prep rooms
Since the 2026 update, four demi-bosses spawn at fixed north/east/south/west rooms (types still random), weapon frames are guaranteed from your first low-tier NPC kill, and resources are stackable. Route a fixed loop around the perimeter to grab resources and weapon upgrades.
2. Prepare food and weapons
Fish and cook food, collect Phren bark / Crystal ore / Linum tirinum, and craft your weapon (bow for distance, halberd for melee, or staff for magic). Upgrade with demi-boss drops when your route allows.
3. Fight Hunllef with prayer discipline
Pray against Hunllef's current attack style and switch when it changes. Dodge the tornadoes and the floor patterns, and don't panic-swap weapons mid-special — controlled movement beats greedy DPS.
4. Chase the uniques
Enhanced crystal weapon seed (Bow of Faerdhinen or Blade of Saeldor), Crystal armour seeds, the Youngllef pet, and large stacks of crystal shards.
Prep Checklist
- Lock one stable loadout before you chase max DPS variants.
- Pre-plan your inventory around your expected trip length.
- Set one clear objective for each trip (KC, task, uniques, or practice).
Recommended Loadout
Gauntlet prep: 7 of each resource, 2 weapons, 3 pots. 24 fish minimum for corrupted.

Mechanic Checklist
Focus on clean rotations, predictable movement, and stable supplies.
- Carry two different weapon types - the Hunllef prays against one style at a time and only the opposite style lands full damage.
- Tier 2 armour is worth the extra prep time: each armour tier cuts the Hunllef's max hit by roughly 13%.
- During the tornado phase keep running and do not stop to eat unless you are clear of both the tornados and the glowing floor tiles.
Common Mistakes
- Over-prioritizing damage upgrades before mastering mechanics.
- Bringing too many switches and losing consistency under pressure.
- Staying too long on weak supplies and losing overall hourly value.
- Trying to speedrun before your baseline clear is stable.
Progression Targets
- Stage 1: Build a reliable The Gauntlet starter setup in Gear Picker and secure consistent clears.
- Stage 2: Optimize trip length through cleaner mechanics and inventory control.
- Stage 3: Add a stronger DPS variant and compare real run outcomes.
- Stage 4: Finalize a shareable The Gauntlet loadout set for your ongoing route.
Notable Drops
- Enhanced crystal weapon seed
- Crystal armor seed
- Youngllef
Boss FAQ
01How did the 2026 Summer Sweep-Up change Gauntlet prep?
The July 2026 update made prep much more consistent: four demi-bosses now spawn at fixed north/east/south/west rooms (types still random), weapon frames are guaranteed from your first low-tier NPC kill, Phren Bark/Crystal Ore/Linum Tirinum are stackable, Crystal Shards auto-place in your inventory, and enemy stats are standardised so no mob is better than another. Crystal Shard costs also changed — Tier 1 weapons now cost 0 shards (down from 20) and Tier 3 armour costs 100 per piece (up from 80).
02What are the new Gauntlet speed challenge times?
To stop the prep changes making speed tasks freebies, the times were tightened: Gauntlet Speed-chaser is now under 4:45 (was 5:00), Speed-runner under 3:45 (was 4:00), Corrupted Speed-chaser under 7:05 (was 7:30), and Corrupted Speed-runner under 6:05 (was 6:30).
03What are The Gauntlet's notable drops?
The Gauntlet drops the Enhanced Crystal Weapon Seed (used to create the Bow of Faerdhinen or Blade of Saeldor), Crystal Armour Seeds, and the Youngllef pet. It also drops large stacks of Crystal Shards, which feed the crystal equipment crafting system.
04What setup style should I start with for The Gauntlet?
Start with a Prep-based setup focused on consistency, then tune damage once your kill flow is stable. Build and test your own setup in the Gear Picker before long trips.
05Is The Gauntlet good for profit?
The Gauntlet can be strong for profit depending on your kill consistency, trip length, and unique drop luck. Prioritize repeatable clears over risky max-DPS setups.
06How should I use Gear Picker for The Gauntlet?
Create one baseline loadout, one safer sustain loadout, and one upgraded version. Share each link so you can compare and discuss setups quickly.
07Should I use Best in Slot Finder or Gear Picker for The Gauntlet?
Use Best in Slot Finder for recommendation-first starting points, then use Gear Picker to build and refine the exact setup you will actually run.
