Mad Angel OSRS Boss Guide

Solo BossesMediumRepeatable Boss

Updated September 2026

The Mad Angel is a golem boss in Ardeaglais, the cathedral on Wyrmscraig, unlocked after Fallen From Grace. It drops Hallowfell, a two-handed sword whose cone attack hits up to two extra targets for 50% max hit, making it the strongest melee weapon against three or more enemies. It also drops granite dust, the Jar of Light and the Aggy pet. This guide gives you a practical starting route, loadout direction, and decision-first checklist so you can get into consistent kills faster.

Boss Overview

Mad Angel is a repeatable boss in thesolo bosses bracket. This encounter rewards practical loadout choices and repeatable mechanics more than flashy max-hit attempts.

The Mad Angel attacks mostly with melee and is weak to golembane weapons, with Protect from Melee dropping its standard max hit from 31 to 5. After three standard attacks it uses a special, and at around 350 hitpoints it enters an enrage phase where specials come faster and it opens with all three in a row. A ...! overhead message signals the transition.

For a first kill, learn the three specials: run to the opposite side or behind it for the sweep, stand on the blast's shadow to bounce it back for 18-22 damage, and click Protect from Magic on the tick the smite lightning lands to fully negate it and guarantee your next max hit. In the enrage phase the second strike comes 4 ticks after the first and the third just 2 ticks later.

Your current setup should match your trip objective. If you are learning mechanics, favor sustain and control. If you are already consistent, add damage gradually.

Build consistency first, then optimize kill speed in controlled steps.

How The Fight Works

Entry Setup

Open each run with a consistent setup routine to reduce avoidable errors.

Core Mechanic Loop

Use the same clean mechanic cycle each kill for Mad Angel before adding optimizations.

Trip Sustain

Preserve supplies with low-risk choices so your average trip value stays stable.

Bank and Repeat

Reset quickly, review one improvement point, and keep run volume high.

Kill Method

1. Unlock the repeatable fight

Complete the Fallen From Grace quest on Wyrmscraig (62 Sailing, 60 Crafting, 47 Runecraft, 53 Mining, plus Hunter for Goat Hunting if you want the full loop). Return to the Cathedral to challenge the Mad Angel — the quest version is toned down, the repeatable version is the real fight.

2. Use a mid-game melee setup

The Mad Angel is designed as the next step after earning a Fire Cape: a mid-level PvM encounter that rewards clean mechanics over max gear. Bring a standard melee setup with good prayer sustain.

3. Farm the Hallowfell

Hallowfell is the unique drop: a two-handed sword requiring 75 Attack that cleaves up to two additional enemies in a front-facing cone at 50% of your max hit. Against three targets it is the strongest melee weapon in the game.

4. Loot the rest of the table

Boss teleport scrolls (direct teleports back to the encounter), Granite dust, a boss jar, and a new pet — the first entry in her Collection Log.

Prep Checklist

  • Lock one stable loadout before you chase max DPS variants.
  • Pre-plan your inventory around your expected trip length.
  • Set one clear objective for each trip (KC, task, uniques, or practice).

Mechanic Checklist

Focus on clean rotations, predictable movement, and stable supplies.

  • Dodge the sweep to the side or behind the Angel - a correct side dodge makes your next attack 100% accurate with a raised minimum hit.
  • Bounce the blast by standing on its shadow tile; it deals 18-22 to the boss instead of 30 or more to the whole arena.
  • Time Protect from Magic to the tick the smite lightning strikes to fully negate it and guarantee a max hit next attack.

Common Mistakes

  • Over-prioritizing damage upgrades before mastering mechanics.
  • Bringing too many switches and losing consistency under pressure.
  • Staying too long on weak supplies and losing overall hourly value.

Progression Targets

  1. Stage 1: Build a reliable Mad Angel starter setup in Gear Picker and secure consistent clears.
  2. Stage 2: Optimize trip length through cleaner mechanics and inventory control.
  3. Stage 3: Add a stronger DPS variant and compare real run outcomes.
  4. Stage 4: Finalize a shareable Mad Angel loadout set for your ongoing route.

Notable Drops

  • Hallowfell
  • Boss teleport scrolls
  • Granite dust

Boss FAQ

01How do I unlock the Mad Angel boss?

02What is Hallowfell and what does it do?

Hallowfell is the unique drop: a two-handed sword requiring 75 Attack. When you strike a primary target it damages up to two additional enemies in a front-facing cone (3 tiles in front + 2 adjacent) at 50% of your max hit. Against three targets it is the strongest melee weapon in the game.

Hard: Mad Angel Veteran (50 kills), Speed-Runner (5 kills in 10 minutes), Perfect Mad Angel (no avoidable damage). Elite: This Is Madness (15 kills without leaving the arena) and The Pen Is Mightier (kill without equipping a weapon).
