Chaos Fanatic OSRS Boss Guide
Wilderness Bosses - Easy difficulty
Updated September 2026
The Chaos Fanatic is a low-level Wilderness boss west of the Lava Maze in level 42 Wilderness, one of the three shard bosses and one of the only sources of the Ancient staff. He is a straightforward ranged or magic fight whose main threats are a disarm and slow-moving exploding projectiles. He sits in single-way combat, so other players cannot pile you mid-fight. This guide gives you a practical starting route, loadout direction, and decision-first checklist so you can get into consistent kills faster.

Boss Overview
Chaos Fanatic is a wilderness demi-boss in thewilderness bosses bracket. Wilderness bossing is a risk-management activity as much as a PvM activity.
The Fanatic's basic red magic attack maxes 31 and is fully blocked by Protect from Magic, and he has two specials. One green projectile disarms you, which can be entirely negated by keeping your inventory full, and the other fires three slow projectiles that explode on impact, one of which always targets your current tile. After an explosion he has a 12-attack cooldown of only basic attacks.
For a first kill, keep your inventory full using food that leaves an item, such as summer pies, and disable potion smashing so the disarm has nowhere to put your weapon. Move a few tiles when the three projectiles launch, then use the 12-attack cooldown window to attack freely. He is weakest to Ranged from standard weapons.
Your current setup should match your trip objective. If you are learning mechanics, favor sustain and control. If you are already consistent, add damage gradually.
Run low-tilt trips with predictable exits and sustainable risk.
How The Fight Works
Route and Escape Planning
Set your entry route, escape path, and risk cap before each trip.
Kill Setup
Control positioning and mechanics while monitoring player activity nearby.
Loot and Decision Point
Decide quickly whether to bank or continue based on supplies and risk.
Exit Execution

- Set one clear objective for each trip (KC, task, uniques, or practice).
- Use risk-adjusted gear and a fixed escape route every trip.
Recommended Loadout

Mechanic Checklist
Route planning, escape decisions, and controlled risk matter as much as kill speed.
- Keep your inventory full with item-leaving food like summer pies to fully negate the Fanatic's disarm attack.
- When the three green projectiles launch, move a few tiles: one always targets the tile you are standing on.
- After an explosion there are 12 basic attacks with no special, so that is your safest window to deal damage.
Common Mistakes
- Over-prioritizing damage upgrades before mastering mechanics.
- Bringing too many switches and losing consistency under pressure.
- Staying too long on weak supplies and losing overall hourly value.
- Ignoring PK risk and travelling with more risk than needed.
