The Rondache is the Fractured Archive's defensive unique. It is an 80 Defence shield that reduces incoming damage, stores the mitigated damage as charges, and spends those charges on a Shield Bash.
It is not an Avernic defender replacement. The Rondache trades accuracy for survivability and a free off-hand special, which makes it a specialist pick for chip-damage fights rather than a universal best-in-slot shield.

The shield requires 80 Defence. Its Strength bonus is close to the Avernic defender, but it has no meaningful attack bonus. You wear it when the flat damage reduction and Shield Bash are worth more than accuracy.
How Shield Bash works
- Every hit you take is reduced by a flat 2 damage. The prevented damage becomes a charge, up to 20 charges.
- Shield Bash fires instantly with no attack delay, similar to a Granite Maul special.
- The bash rolls crush accuracy, and its accuracy bonus scales with the charges you have stored.
- The shield has its own special attack bar, so you can use it alongside a main-hand special. Right-click the special attack orb to fire it without opening the Combat Styles tab.
- It grants XP in your currently selected attack style.
The flat reduction applies to melee, ranged and magic damage. That is why the shield is strongest in fights with many small hits rather than one large hit.
How to get the Rondache
The Rondache is a unique drop from the Fractured Archive, the fourth OSRS raid. The raid requires While Guthix Sleeps and supports 2-8 players.
The overall unique rate is not published. Once a unique drops, the conditional split is Rondache 5/15, Zorya's Tome 4/15, Horn of Bran 3/15, Ascension crossbows 2/15 and the Obligator 1/15. That makes the Rondache the most common unique in the split.

Is the Rondache worth it?
Use the Rondache when chip damage is the problem, not when you need maximum DPS:
- Inferno and fight caves. The flat reduction adds up across many small hits, and Shield Bash gives you a free hit while you solve the wave.
- Olm and other multi-hit bosses. The shield smooths incoming damage so your brews go further.
- Araxxor and tight Combat Achievement runs. The defensive buffer is worth more than a few points of accuracy.
- Anywhere you already bring a shield switch. The Rondache gives that switch an offensive option.
Do not camp it for general PvM. The Avernic defender still wins when accuracy and Strength drive your damage, and the Rondache's negative magic and ranged attack make it a poor fit for hybrid setups that need those styles.
Charging and tradeable status
The Rondache is tradeable only when it is fully uncharged. A charged Rondache cannot be sold on the Grand Exchange. If you buy one, check the charge state before you commit.
The shield does not use the Obligator's nature and death rune charge cycle. Its charges come from damage it prevents, so it recharges as you tank.
