Learning the Ropes is the tutorial quest every new character completes on Tutorial Island. It teaches the basics of the game and hands you a full starter kit.

Walkthrough

  1. Customise your character. On first login you appear on Tutorial Island. Set your appearance, then talk to the Gielinor Guide and open the Settings interface when asked.
  2. Survival Expert. Talk to the Survival Expert, catch a shrimp with the small fishing net, then chop logs, light a fire with the tinderbox and cook the shrimp.
  3. Master Chef. Talk to the Master Chef and use the pot of flour on the bucket of water to make bread dough, then cook the bread on the range.
  4. Combat basics. Train on the level 3 Giant rats with the bronze sword and shield you are given, following the instructors' prompts.
  5. Complete the tutorial. Follow the remaining guides, talk to the Ironman tutor if you want ironman restrictions, then talk to the Quest Guide to finish.

01Can I skip Learning the Ropes?

No. It is the tutorial quest all players must complete before gaining access to the mainland.

02What do I get from Learning the Ropes?

You gain 1 Quest point, mainland access, the Lumbridge Home Teleport spell, a full set of starter gear and 25 coins in your bank.

03What are the requirements for Learning the Ropes?

None. Every new account starts on Tutorial Island, and you only need to follow the instructors and kill two level 3 giant rats.

04How long does Learning the Ropes take?

It is a very short tutorial, typically taking around 15 to 20 minutes to work through all the instructors.

05How do I become an ironman on Tutorial Island?

Talk to the Ironman tutor before leaving Tutorial Island to choose your Ironman Mode restrictions. If you leave without talking to him you cannot enable the mode later.

06Does Learning the Ropes count as a quest?

Yes. It is a trackable quest worth 1 Quest point and was formerly known as Tutorial Island.

07Can I change my appearance after Learning the Ropes?

Yes. All character customisation options can be changed later for free through the Makeover interface.
