Magic finally got early-game jewellery worth wearing — and it immediately caused a balance debate.
The 2 September 2026 Summer Sweep-Up Miscellaneous update added four elemental amulets plus a combined Elemental amulet, and a Ranged Necklace of Fangs from Turoths. On 3 September Jagex proposed a nerf, then on 8 September confirmed they are leaving the amulets as-is for now.
Here is how to make them, what they do, and whether they beat your Occult.
Elemental Amulets: Stats
Each single-element amulet: +10 Magic Accuracy, +2 max hit to its element's spells.
The combined Elemental amulet: +10 Magic Accuracy, +2 max hit to all elemental spells.
That +2 is flat — strongest when you hit 12s, marginal when you hit 40s. That is the whole design: a noticeable boost for early-game mages, a niche sidegrade at endgame.
The Nerf That Was, Then Was Not
- Initial blog: +2 described ambiguously; many assumed it applied after all multipliers like Elemental Weakness bonus damage.
- 3 Sept update: Jagex said they would tweak it so the +2 applies after Elemental Weakness and Magic Damage % bonuses, tapering endgame use.
- 8 Sept update: After feedback, they reversed — leaving amulets as-is. Reason: players want Standard spellbook love, and future Magic upgrades (including Elemental Fragments from The Fractured Archive) will naturally powercreep them. They admitted not polling them was a misstep.
Expect no change now, but do not invest as if they are permanent endgame BiS. An Occult upgrade is explicitly on the long-term radar.
How to Craft Them
Combine at the matching elemental rune altar: Amulet of magic + elemental jewel + 100 matching runes.
| Amulet | Jewel (1/64 Slayer drop) | Runecraft |
|---|---|---|
| Amulet of Air | Air diamond — Killerwatts | 18 |
| Amulet of Water | Water sapphire — Sea Snake Hatchlings | 19 |
| Amulet of Earth | Earth emerald — Molanisks | 20 |
| Amulet of Fire | Fire ruby — Infernal Mages | 21 |
| Elemental amulet | All four + 500 of each rune, any elemental altar | 30 |
The jewels are the bottleneck — camp the matching Slayer task. Ironmen: Killerwatts and Molanisks already drop early-game supplies, so this layers well with Slayer grinds.
Occult Necklace vs Elemental Amulet: What to Wear?
- Early/mid-game elemental camping (e.g. Slayer with Fire Bolt/Blast): Elemental amulet wins. Cheap, +2 flat is large relative to your max hit, +10 accuracy matches the tier.
- High-end bursting/barraging with powered staves + thralls: Occult still wins on Magic Damage %. The amulet is situationally BiS in a small number of elemental-weakness matchups — exactly the "wonky but narrow" state Jagex described.
- Budget rule: If you cannot afford an Occult, make the Elemental amulet. Total cost is four amulets of magic + 900 runes + jewels you get from Slayer anyway.
Compare costs in the Magic Calculator, model max hits in the Max Hit Calculator and DPS Calculator, and check matchup picks in Gear Picker.
Necklace of Fangs: The Ranged Gap-Filler
Ranged had the same problem — nothing between early amulets and Anguish for Slayer progression. The fix: Necklace of Fangs, 1/128 from Turoths (including Spiked Turoths).
Stats: +1 Ranged Strength, +12 Ranged Accuracy.
It is not a Fury or Anguish replacement. It is the necklace you wear at mid-level Slayer while saving for one. If you already camp Turoths for Slayer, you will likely get one passively — check drop odds in the Drop Rate Calculator.
What to Do Now
- Need cheap Magic power now? Farm the four jewels on-task, craft at 30 Runecraft, wear the Elemental amulet for elemental spells.
- Already own Occult? Keep it. The amulet is a sidegrade for specific weaknesses, not a replacement.
- Ranged mid-game? Add Turoths back to your block-allow list for the Fangs.
- Ironmen: Prioritise this before Guardians of the Rift grinds — the Runecraft levels (18-30) come free along the way. See Guardians changes for the Abyssal Lantern/Needle updates in the same patch cycle.
Jagex signalled higher-tier versions may come in 2027 alongside broader Standard spellbook work. For now, treat these as the best cheap Magic jewellery in the game — just not the last word.
