  • Find the probability of any rare drop, how many kills for a 95% chance, and how unlucky your dry streak really is.

Every OSRS player has been there. You are 2,000 kills dry on a 1/512 drop and starting to wonder if the item actually exists. Or you are 500 kills into a boss and want to know when you can reasonably expect to see that pet.

Understanding probability in OSRS is not intuitive. A 1/1,000 drop rate does not mean you are guaranteed the drop after 1,000 kills — each kill is independent. Our Drop Rate Calculator and Pet Odds Calculator help you make sense of the numbers so you know when to keep grinding and when to switch methods.

The Drop Rate Calculator

This tool answers three questions that every OSRS player asks:

What are my chances? Enter a drop rate and your kill count to see the cumulative probability of having received at least one drop. At 500 kills of a 1/512 rate, you have about a 62% chance of seeing the drop. At 1,000 kills, it is about 86%. At 3,000 kills, over 99%.

How many kills for a sure thing? Set a target probability — 75%, 90%, 95% — and the calculator tells you exactly how many kills you need. For a 1/256 drop at 95% confidence, you need about 765 kills. For 99% confidence, about 1,176 kills.

How dry am I? Enter your current dry streak to see what percentage of players experience that level of dryness or worse. Being 2,000 kills dry on a 1/512 rate puts you in the top 2% of unlucky players.

The calculator includes presets for 20 popular drops including Twisted bow (1/3,428), Scythe of Vitur (1/172), Tumeken's shadow (1/24 at max invocation), Dragon warhammer (1/3,000 after the drop rate buff), and many boss uniques.

The Pet Odds Calculator

With over 50 boss pets in the game, knowing which one to hunt can save you hundreds of hours. The Pet Odds Calculator lists drop rates for every boss pet sourced directly from the OSRS Wiki, each with a link to the source page for verification.

Select a pet and enter your kill count to see your current probability. The tool also calculates how many kills you need for a 95% chance and, if you enter your kills per hour, how many hours that translates to.

Notable rates:

  • Skotos (Skotizo) — 1/65, the easiest pet in the game
  • Olmlet (Chambers of Xeric) — 1/53 per unique roll
  • TzRek-Jad (TzTok-Jad) — 1/200 per kill
  • Pet snakeling (Zulrah) — 1/4,000
  • Phoenix (Wintertodt) — 1/5,000
  • Bloodhound (Master clues) — 1/1,000
  • Tiny tempor (Tempoross) — 1/8,000

Why Independent Probability Matters

A common misconception is that going "on rate" for kills guarantees the drop. With a 1/1,000 rate, about 37% of players will not have the drop by 1,000 kills. About 5% will not have it by 3,000 kills. The calculator makes this concrete so you can set realistic expectations rather than burning out chasing a 50/50 chance.

How to Use These Together

The Drop Rate Calculator tells you how many kills you need. The DPS Calculator helps you optimise your kills per hour to get there faster. The Max Hit Calculator ensures you are dealing maximum damage per attack. And the Skill Calculators help you train the stats required to access bosses efficiently.

FAQ

How does the OSRS Drop Rate Calculator work?

Enter a drop rate and your kill count to see the cumulative probability of having received at least one drop. You can also set a target probability and the tool tells you how many kills are needed.

Does a 1/1,000 drop rate guarantee the drop after 1,000 kills?

No. Each kill is independent, so a 1/1,000 rate still leaves about 37% of players without the drop by 1,000 kills and about 5% without it by 3,000 kills.

How many kills do I need for a 95% chance at a drop?

For a 1/256 drop at 95% confidence you need about 765 kills, and for 99% confidence about 1,176 kills. The calculator lets you set any target probability.

How accurate are the pet drop rates in the calculator?

The Pet Odds Calculator lists drop rates for every boss pet sourced directly from the OSRS Wiki, each with a link to the source page so you can verify the numbers yourself.

What does the dry streak percentage tell me?

It shows what percentage of players experience that level of dryness or worse. Being 2,000 kills dry on a 1/512 rate puts you in the top 2% of unlucky players.
