Cerberus OSRS Boss Guide
Slayer Bosses - Medium difficulty
Updated September 2026
Cerberus is a level 91 Slayer boss beneath the Taverley Dungeon, fought on a hellhound task. She drops the Primordial, Pegasian and Eternal crystals that upgrade Dragon boots into the best-in-slot boot upgrades, plus the Smouldering stone and Hellpuppy pet. The ghost mechanic is what separates a fast, cheap kill from a costly one. This guide gives you a practical starting route, loadout direction, and decision-first checklist so you can get into consistent kills faster.

Boss Overview
Cerberus is a slayer boss in theslayer bosses bracket. Slayer bosses reward route discipline across many task-driven runs.
Cerberus attacks with magic, ranged and melee, each maxing 23, and has three specials: a rapid magic-ranged-melee combo, a howl that summons three souls draining 30 prayer each if blocked, and fireballs that leave damaging lava on the floor. The souls are the most dangerous mechanic, but standing underneath her at the health thresholds prevents the summon entirely.
For a first kill, use melee with Protect from Melee and either learn the ghost order so you can pray against each soul in turn, or step under her to skip them. Her melee, magic and ranged attacks share the same modest max hit, so sustain is usually a matter of prayer management rather than tanking. She respawns nine seconds after death.
Your current setup should match your trip objective. If you are learning mechanics, favor sustain and control. If you are already consistent, add damage gradually.
Optimize for sustainable task throughput with low error rates.
How The Fight Works
Entry Setup
Open each run with a consistent setup routine to reduce avoidable errors.
Core Mechanic Loop
Use the same clean mechanic cycle each kill for Cerberus before adding optimizations.
Trip Sustain
Preserve supplies with low-risk choices so your average trip value stays stable.
Bank and Repeat
Reset quickly, review one improvement point, and keep run volume high.
Kill Method
1. Skip the ghosts
Step directly under Cerberus at ~400 HP and again at ~200 HP. While you stand underneath it cannot summon its ghosts, so the special attack is skipped entirely — you only need one prayer for the rest of the kill.
2. Handle lava pools
Cerberus spawns lava pools that erupt after a short delay. Keep your kills flowing by moving off any pool as soon as it appears rather than tanking the hit.
3. Pray against the main attacks
Use Protect from Melee for the standard fight. If you miss the ghost skip, swap prayers to match each ghost's attack style in the order they spawn (Ranged, Magic, then Melee at 400 HP; single Melee ghost at 200 HP).
4. Loot and reset
Primordial, Pegasian, and Eternal crystals are the money drops — combine them with Dragon boots for the best-in-slot boots. The Smouldering stone and Jar of souls round out the unique table.
Prep Checklist
- Lock one stable loadout before you chase max DPS variants.
- Pre-plan your inventory around your expected trip length.
- Set one clear objective for each trip (KC, task, uniques, or practice).
- Match setup choices to your Slayer task and trip goals.
Recommended Loadout
Scythe is massive here due to Cerb's large hitbox. Ghost skip is the main mechanic to learn.

Mechanic Checklist
Trip consistency and mechanic rhythm beat all-in DPS greed.
- Learn the ghost skip: standing under Cerberus at her health thresholds stops her summoning the three prayer-draining souls.
- Pray against each summoned soul's combat style - a blocked soul drains 30 prayer, and an unblocked one hits 30.
- Do not bring a dwarf multicannon; it cannot be placed inside Cerberus' Lair.
Common Mistakes
- Over-prioritizing damage upgrades before mastering mechanics.
- Bringing too many switches and losing consistency under pressure.
- Staying too long on weak supplies and losing overall hourly value.
Progression Targets
- Stage 1: Build a reliable Cerberus starter setup in Gear Picker and secure consistent clears.
- Stage 2: Optimize trip length through cleaner mechanics and inventory control.
- Stage 3: Add a stronger DPS variant and compare real run outcomes.
- Stage 4: Finalize a shareable Cerberus loadout set for your ongoing route.
Notable Drops
- Primordial crystal
- Pegasian crystal
- Eternal crystal
Boss FAQ
01How does the Cerberus ghost skip work?
Stand directly underneath Cerberus as it reaches the HP thresholds that trigger ghost summons (around 400 and 200 HP). While you are under Cerberus it cannot summon the ghosts, so the special attack is skipped entirely. Timing the step-under at the exact threshold is the key — once you skip the ghosts you only need the one melee protection prayer.
02What is the Cerberus ghost sequence and how do I pray against it?
Cerberus summons three ghosts (Ranged, Magic, and Melee) at 400 HP and a single melee ghost at 200 HP. Each ghost attacks with a different style, so you must swap prayers to match. Using the Runelite Cerberus plugin to track the ghost order makes the prayer swaps much easier to handle.
03What are the best Cerberus drops?
Cerberus drops Primordial, Pegasian, and Eternal crystals, which combine with Dragon boots to create the BiS Primordial, Pegasian, and Eternal boots. The Primordial crystal is the most valuable of the three.
04What setup style should I start with for Cerberus?
Start with a Melee setup focused on consistency, then tune damage once your kill flow is stable. Build and test your own setup in the Gear Picker before long trips.
05Is Cerberus good for profit?
Cerberus can be strong for profit depending on your kill consistency, trip length, and unique drop luck. Prioritize repeatable clears over risky max-DPS setups.
06How should I use Gear Picker for Cerberus?
Create one baseline loadout, one safer sustain loadout, and one upgraded version. Share each link so you can compare and discuss setups quickly.
07Should I use Best in Slot Finder or Gear Picker for Cerberus?
Use Best in Slot Finder for recommendation-first starting points, then use Gear Picker to build and refine the exact setup you will actually run.
