How GE tax and Beyond Max Cash work

  • A 2% tax is deducted from each sale, rounded down and capped at 5,000,000 GP per item. Sales under 50 GP pay nothing.
  • Since 30 September 2026, one GE offer can settle any value up to 2,149,631,130,647 GP using a mix of Coins and Platinum tokens.
  • Item stacks (including Coins and Platinum) are still capped at 2.147B each. Only the GE trade itself goes above that.
  • Payment is taken automatically from your inventory first, then your bank, and you are refunded any spare coins.

Frequently Asked Questions

01How much is the Grand Exchange tax in OSRS?

The GE tax is 2% of the sale price, rounded down, and capped at 5,000,000 coins per item. Items that sell for under 50 coins round down to zero tax, and a small list of items such as bonds and low-level food are fully exempt.

02How do I sell an item worth more than max cash on the GE?

Since 30 September 2026 the GE settles trades above 2.147B by combining Coins and Platinum tokens automatically. You place one offer as normal; the game splits the payment across both currencies. Item stacks are still capped at 2.147B each.

03What is the maximum the Grand Exchange can trade after Beyond Max Cash?

About 2,149,631,130,647 GP, which is a full 2.147B Coins stack plus a full 2.147B Platinum token stack. In practice no item is close to that, so the ceiling is future-proofing.

04Do I still pay GE tax on trades above max cash?

Yes. GE tax applies to high-value trades exactly as before and is still capped at 5,000,000 coins per item. Those sales also continue to feed the item sink that removes gold and items from the game.
