Question 1

Is Blast Furnace worth it for Smithing training?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Blast Furnace offers the fastest Smithing XP rates in the game. While gold bars cost money, you'll reach 99 Smithing 5-6x faster than traditional methods. The 5-6M cost is worth saving 150+ hours of gameplay for most players.

Question 2

Can I profit at Blast Furnace?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Runite bars (85+ Smithing) are profitable at approximately 50 GP per bar while providing 240K XP/hour. Adamantite bars are nearly break-even. However, for maximum speed, gold bars with Goldsmith gauntlets remain the meta despite costing money.

Question 3

Do I need Goldsmith gauntlets?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you're doing gold bars. Goldsmith gauntlets provide a 2.5x XP multiplier, increasing gold bar XP from 22.5 to 56.2. Without them, gold bars aren't worth the cost. Complete the Family Crest quest to unlock them.

Question 4

How much does 99 Smithing cost?

Accepted Answer

Using gold bars (40-99): approximately 5-6M GP in 35-40 hours. Using steel bars budget method: 3-4M GP in 60+ hours. Using profitable runite bars (85-99): you'll make money but takes significantly longer overall.

Question 5

What if I don't have ice gloves?

Accepted Answer

Ice gloves are essential for efficient Blast Furnace training. Without them, you must wait 10+ seconds for bars to cool before collecting, severely reducing XP rates. Get them from the Ice Queen in White Wolf Mountain.

Question 6

Can I use Blast Furnace below 60 Smithing?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but you'll pay 2,500 GP per 10 minutes for workers (15K/hour). Consider training to 60 through quests like The Giant Dwarf and The Knight's Sword before committing to extensive Blast Furnace training.
